A big thank you to the Sunday Stuff crew who were part of "clean up Australia" last sunday.
check out the snaps at: http://www.dpa.org.au/photos/

In the Bible the words used for "worship" have two major meanings: adoration (thats the one we are used to thinking about) and action (yep! worship someone/something by what you DO!).

Christian spirituality is holistic and its clear from the way Jesus lived that he served God in the streets and homes of villages as much as in the synagogue. So last Sunday we got involved in some hard work for a few hours to help a little patch of the planet as our way of worshipping God.

Solace Tweenie adventure in Sydney - Harry Potter plus

    Saturday March 17th ALL DAY

    cost $200-$230 (depending on flights)

Aim: to give a group of tweenie kids (approx. ages 10 to 15) a great day out with a spiritual edge.

AND to hopefully start to build a group of tweenie kids for tweenie kids who find themselves in home churches/emerging churches in small numbers and need a "tribe" that does fun and meaningful stuff a few times a year.

    The plan:

We will fly from Tullamarine around 9am on Jetstar (or perhaps 8:30 on Tiger…) and arrive back at Tulla around 7:30 or 8pm the same day.

Upon arrival in Sydney we will go by train to Darling Harbour and visit the Powerhouse' Harry Potter' memorabilia exhibition

Afterwards we will go by lightrail around the city and spend time on a ferry enjoying the sights of Sydney

We will train it back to the airport for a 6pm flight home.

Along the way we will have lots of planned and spontaneous fun including exploring some of the themes and characters in all 7 Harry Potter books.

    The care:

There will be one adult for every 5 tweenies. The in-charge adults will be Solace staff/leaders who have a WWC card and in some cases also have a full police check. Appropriate childsafe and first aid requirements will also be in place and Solace is a fully insured association.

Solace will cover the cost of the supervising adults as our commitment to help "like-spirited" tweenies come together.

    The costs:

costs include: return airfares, all train, ferry, rail and lightrail travel (inc. gatepass to the airport), and entry to the Harry Potter exhibition at the Powerhouse museum

    The low-down:

bring: food, drink and snacks for the day, appropriate clothing for the weather in Sydney that day (to be advised) and some money for food/gift purchases.

    RSVP before Friday MARCH 2nd.

Hey people, we have entered Advent!!!

Sunday stuff @ SOLACE will be preparing for the celebration of Jesus’s birth over the next four weeks.

We’ll be singing some rock’n Carols & other fabulous Christmas tunes in the all ages time. Adults are looking at the Birth narrative in Luke, reflecting, walking the Labyrinth and chatting about how we look after ourselves in this crazy time. Kids are focusing on a story book called “The Road to Christmas Day" & preparing for the Christmas break up service on the 18th December where they will perform with the adults participating in an ad-hock manner.

Christmas day falls on a Sunday this year & we are having Breakfast together & singing some Carols. Meeting at 9am & we’ll be out of there by 10am so people can head off to other Christmas day plans. Come & share a lovely time of community and worship celebrating our Saviours birth with delicious breakky to boot J

Sunday Stuff finishes for the Holidays on Christmas Day & will start again on Sunday 29th January 2012. Keep an eye out for invitations to social stuff & a working bee for the Garden Space over the Holidays!

Be kind to yourself and stay in touch J

    Hugs from the SOLACE crew

If you have not heard yet - Solace is celebrating 12 years of existence! ....and what a journey!

Here is info on the day for those coming along. (The place will probably be chaotically packed from around 5pm to 8pm i am imagining so lets hope it is not raining during those hours.)

The doors open at 4pm and we will continue into the evening until at least 10:30pm (possibly much later.) We do NOT expect people to attend all of it - the time is mostly unstructured and we want you to be able to drop in at a time that works well for you. (There are no lectures or workshops during the afternoon it is just "open house")

We will have at least 25 children and 40 adults for dinner, with a few families and adults dropping in over the afternoon/evening as able. People have responded who have been supporters, or who lead something similar and wish to cheer us on, as well as current and old members.

Its kind of our first reunion really -although i know some old friends always make the yearly end of year dinner.

A few people have braved the online system BUT please do feel free to pay on the day. We can process cash, cheques and credit cards on the day.
Just a reminder of the prices: (and please let me know if money is a concern as a few people have offered to host those who can't afford to pay)
    child dinner $5
    Adult drinks $5
    Adult dinner  $20
    host another $20

Lots of photos and some memorabilia will be up on the day, please do bring anything you have got at home (except that really embarrassing photo of me!)
There will be an opportunity to do a few simple rituals and perhaps even a garden craft to help our venue makeover.
Details about our hopes for the venue and a Solace gift bag to mark the occasion will also be part of the day.
After dinner the singer Kaz Oates will entertain us and we will make sure that she gets a few short sets in before parents take kids home

    Here is a basic outline:

4pm  doors open and afternoon tea

    5:30pm children's dinner commence
5:30pm adults drinks and nibbles commence
    6:30pm children's dinner cleared away

    6:45pm children's films commence upstairs

7:00pm Adults nibbles become adults entree/finger food

    7:30pm Adults main courses served
8pm coffee and dessert type things served (possibly with port and cigars........hee hee)

8pm-ish Carolyn Oates commences sets (children welcome if quiet or else can remain watching films)

9pm-ish Most children have gone home by now or are having a quiet hug with parents

    Late Carolyn finishes up

Feel free to contact me with any questions,
    Olivia 0425 768 441
